HOW TO GET A HIKE FROM YOUR MANAGER:

Getting a salary hike is the biggest challenge that most of the employees face today as they find it embarrassing to approach their boss , some of them really don’t know how to get better hike in salary during the discussions with their managers . Because of this they go for looking for opportunities outside the organizations and  keep changing the jobs and this comes as a challenge for them  as well as the company . A poor salary hike is demotivating if you have worked really hard , a good hike in salary not only motivates or satisfies but also encourages the employee for the next time . Here are some ways appraisal tips so you can get a better or higher hike . 

  •  DO YOUR RESEARCH – One should have knowledge about how the company performed that fiscal year , we hardly pay attention or are bothered about company’s balance sheets or what the profit and loss statement reads . But it is one of the main factor in deciding how much the budget will be fixated for the raise or increments in general . Also you need to understand about what is the appraisal format of your company . Be watchful how your company is performing and you can set your expectations accordingly .
  • LET YOUR MANAGER BE AWARE ABOUT YOUR EXPECTATIONS – Discuss about your hike expectations with your manager , let him understand that you are deserving and want it differently this time . Let’s say for example – you are intend to get 50 % hike in a particular year than this is the time, calculate six months from the start of your appraisal cycle and start throwing  the hints to your manager , if your manager agrees with what you think he will try to make necessary arrangements for you in that time . 
  • DON’T WAIT FOR THE END TIME –  Choose your time wisely , don’t wait for the end time . Before  even your manager comes and discuss with you  about your appraisal , you need to know that first drafts of those ratings  are already decided way to earlier than that communications and accordingly they start assigning a rating to each candidate in his team so that he can fit everybody into the budget . So it very important that you act on it early so that the manager gets feasible time to think about it more .
  • BE A TEAM PLAYER– Don’t be afraid of taking responsibilities , show your team effort ; helping your colleagues is a key trait which can contribute to the increment you receive. Volunteer for task in which no one shows interest . Also asking for regular feedback from manager can also help your efforts to get noticed . 
  • DOCUMENT YOUR EFFORTS – Don’t forget to document every little achievement and effort of your that you have put to reach to your goal  because data speaks louder than words, it can be appreciation emails or clients feedback or anything that documents your efforts . Put emphasize on your proven commitments and value of your contributions . 
  • BE PROFESSIONAL AND NOT EMOTIONAL – Sell your skills with confidence , focus on having practical and productive conversations rather than the emotional one . When asking for salary hike focus on your performance and efforts , do not deviate and mention personal and emotional problems  as a cause for a salary raise . Focus on selling and not on begging . 
  • FOCUS ON YOUR KRA’S- First try to focus on your KRA’s and then jump on things beyond that because if you missed out on your KRA’s and you did something out of the way than you might get the pat on the back for it but your ratings will still be low . Your manager is not going to add that achievement to your pre defined goals . 

It is okay if the result comes out negative when you ask for a raise .Don’t stop your effort there , instead learn more about why are you being rejected . Do not read the negative response personally . If the results are not in your favor this time , the ball will surely be in your court the next time if you work hard for it  .
